DNC launches new campaign targeting Trump, health care same day as president’s rally in Sanford

ORLANDO, Fla. — The Democratic National Convention announced it is launching a new digital ad campaign highlighting President Donald Trump’s “attacks on Floridians' health care and his efforts to gut coverage protections for people with pre-existing conditions, even in the middle of a pandemic.”

The campaign comes the same day as Trump’s campaign stop in Sanford. The ads will reach voters in the area through target Google display advertising and direct voters to the DNC’s ads.

The ads blast “Trump for his effort to rush a Supreme Court justice confirmation so he can strip away health care protections for more than 7.8 million Floridians with preexisting conditions.”

“The reality of Trump’s failed COVID-19 response is going to greet him in Central Florida: Thousands of Floridians working in areas like hospitality and tourism have lost their jobs, coronavirus cases are spiking -- and now, in the midst of the pandemic, he’s once again trying to gut coverage protections for Floridians with preexisting conditions,” DNC Chair Tom Perez said in a news release. “Floridians won’t hear the truth from Trump, so we’re making sure they know the facts about his health care record -- he’s spent years trying to spike costs and strip away coverage, and now he’s rushing through a Supreme Court nominee to try once again to overturn the Affordable Care Act. Floridians deserve a leader who will expand access to quality, affordable health care — not rip it away in the middle of a pandemic, and they’ll hold Trump accountable for his record.”

Trump will deliver remarks for a “Make America Great Again” event at Orlando Sanford International Airport around 7 p.m.

Former Vice President Joe Biden released the following statement:

“President Trump comes to Sanford today bringing nothing but reckless behavior, divisive rhetoric, and fear mongering. But, equally dangerous is what he fails to bring: no plan to get this virus that has taken the lives of over 15,000 Floridians under control, no plan to protect Floridians' health care amid his attacks against the ACA, and certainly no plan to mitigate the economic impact the pandemic is having on families across Central Florida. Donald Trump won’t speak to the pain being felt by working families. The best he has mustered is, “it is what it is.” Well, it is what it is because he is who he is.

“I’ve helped this country recover before, and my commitment to all Floridians is to build this country back better. As President, I will deliver a swift, inclusive economic recovery that includes historic investments in small businesses, gives working families the tax relief they deserve, and creates millions of new, good-paying jobs.”
